DAY 7 UNEXPECTED AUDIENCE: Shepherds Receive the News First
Heaven bypasses scholars and synagogues and shows up to the night shift.
Luke 2:8–12 TPT
That night, in a field near Bethlehem, there were shepherds watching over their flocks. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared in radiant splendor before them, lighting up the field with the blazing glory of God, and the shepherds were terrified! But the angel reassured them, saying, “Don’t be afraid. For I have come to bring you good news, the most joyous news the world has ever heard! And it is for everyone everywhere! For today in Bethlehem a rescuer was born for you. He is the Lord Yahweh, the Messiah. You will recognize him by this miracle sign: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a feeding trough!”
Picture this for a moment, will you? You’re a shepherd near the town of Bethlehem. And this amazing event happens: A celestial being - an angel appears to you in all of his splendor & glory with this incredible message and he says that he comes with this miracle sign… What would you be expecting with that phrase “miracle sign”? Surely not the words that immediately followed: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a feeding trough!
Shepherds were unclean, overlooked, underpaid, and socially dismissed… Exactly the demographic Jesus prefers. God has always delighted in flipping the script; choosing the ones religion dismisses and giving them front-row seats. If you feel unseen, you’re in the right place for revelation.
Heaven comes close to the overlooked. You’re not an afterthought… you’re the first God sends messengers to when He’s got good news! Maybe not via angels like the ones we read about in the Bible (maybe that is a good thing - they seem to be quite scary!)… But we are the ones He trusts with His message.
Ask God to reveal to you what message He brings to you in the fields this Christmas season. Then ask Him what you are to do with it.
Until tomorrow, Live Ignited!
